Awami Itihad Party Friday accused police of humiliating local legislator Engineer Rasheed who were demanding the immediate release of three youth detained under draconian Public Safety Act. During the protest Engineer Rasheed was detained. As per a statement issued by the party, police have slapped PSA on three locals youth Aashiq Hussain Ganaie, Abdul Rashid Khan and Irshad Ahmad Parra. To press for their release, Rasheed staged a sit-in along with his activists. The party alleged that police used tear-smoke shells and pellets to disperse the peaceful protesters. The pellets resulted in the injuries of a lady from Ganapora Langate. “Situation remained tense late till Thursday night in main Langate town, Kralgund, Supernaghama, Unisoo and Qalamabad where people were protesting against highhandedness of police. However Er. Rasheed was released later in the night after receiving assurance from Chief Minister that the PSA will be revoked soon against the three youth and till the order of revocation the three youth will be shifted to nearby sub-jail from Kotbhalwal where they are presently lodged,” the statement reads. Rasheed while addressing a gathering in Handwara after his release later in the night appealed Jammu Kashmir Police not to forget that they are the sons of the soil and some vested elements within the top ranks are trying to involve them to fight to their own people.
